Transgenerational plasticity in black cottonwood Populus trichocarpa

Replicate clones collect from two common gardens are being tested to see whether environment effects persist through cloning and planting in new gardens.  Three replicates each of 36 genotypes from two different garden – in total 216 ramets (i.e. plants that all originating vegetatively, rather than sexually, from a single ancestor) were planted at the SEGA Arboretum Meadow and WCCER gardens in the summer of 2017. The researchers hope to add sexually propagated offspring to this work in the future.
